Our heritage reporter reports that the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has issued an arrest warrant for the new Central Bank Governor, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, the Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein, and 17 others. This action was taken due to their failure to attend the committee’s invitations to provide information on their operations.
Hon. Micheal Irom, the Committee’s Chairman has mandated the Inspector General of Police to secure the appearance of the CEOs before the committee on December 14 through a warrant of arrest. This decision is pending Speaker Rep Tajudeen Abbas’s due diligence.
During the committee’s hearing on Tuesday, Fred Agbedi moved a motion resulting in the adoption of the arrest warrant. The lawmaker emphasized that despite being invited four times, the key figures failed to attend the hearings, justifying the necessity for this course of action.
The petitioner, Mr. Fidelis Uzowanem, indicated that the petition was based on the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) report of 2021.
