Just In : Gunmen kill two police officers
In what seemed like a a relocation of the activities of unknown gunmen from Okigwe and Mbano axis to Mbaise, gunmen have attacked a police van and gunned down two operatives of the Imo State police command.
The incident, according reports, happened on Monday afternoon at Ahiara junction in Ahiazu-Mbaise LGA of Imo state.
Mbaise has been generally peaceful in the last two years since violent crimes took the better of other parts of Imo State starting from the entire Orlu Zone, Okigwe zone and some parts of Owerri and Ngor Okpala.
But in the past few days, Mbaise has witnessed violent crimes particularly, killings starting from Ezinihitte Mbaise local government area.
It could be recalled the latest killing is coming a few days after the PDP chairman of Ife/Okpodim/Chokoneze ward in Ezinihitte-Mbaise, Chiedoziem Anyanwu and the Traditional Ruler of Otulu Autonomous Community in same Ezinihitte-Mbaise, HRH Eze Joe Achulor, were gruesomely murdered by unidentified gunmen.
Confirming the incident, the Imo Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, said the command had been briefed on the news.
He said, “the command has received the ugly news of two of our officers shot dead by assailants. It is very unfortunately the gallant officer lost their lives while on duty at Ahiara junction in Ahaizu-Mbaise LGA.
“Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, the Commander of 34 Artillery Brigade and Joint Task Force (JTF) operatives have started combing the scene of the crime for evidence that will possibly lead to the arrest of the hoodlums responsible for the dastardly act. The command promises to apprehend the killers sooner than later.”
