Just In : electricity Company Disconnects Nigerian University Over N40million Unpaid Bills
The state-owned university was plunged into darkness in spite of the management saying that the sum of N20million out of the N60 million monthly bill has been paid.
The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has disconnected the Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil, from power supply over N40million unpaid light bill.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the school management is now considering three options which include shutting down the university, asking the students not to return after their semester vacation, or having them to bear the brunt of living without electricity.
This was made known on Monday by the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Abdulkadir Dambazau, who said that the institution relied heavily on power to supply water, which has now become a serious issue.
Dambazau said, ”The management has been making sacrifices to pay the bills, but KEDCO’s sudden increase in the monthly bills from N16-17 million to N50-60 million, plus an accumulated bill of N248 million, has left us struggling.
”The university has appealed to the government, philanthropists, and citizens to come to its aid to avoid a complete shutdown, as the institution cannot function without power.”
