Former local government area chairmen in Edo State have made a significant political move, defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledging their allegiance to the party ahead of the September 4, 2024 election.

The group of defectors includes John Osi Akhigbe, former Etsako Central Local Government chairman; Hon (Engr) Dr Josie Ogedegbe, Igueben; Hon Frank Ilaboya, Owan West; Hon Andrew Osigwe, Owan East; Hon Napoleon Agbama, Uhunmwonde; Scott Ogbemudia, Ovia North East; Hon Austin Okoibhole, Esan North East; and Hon Mrs. Ruth Osahor, Esan West.

These former chairmen, who were previously affiliated with the APC but joined Governor Godwin Obaseki in crossing over to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2020, have now returned to the APC fold. They were warmly welcomed at the Benin residence of the APC leader, Sen. Adams Oshiomhole, alongside the APC governorship candidate Sen. Monday Okpebholo, his running mate Ry. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, and the Acting State Chairman of the party, Emperor Jaret Tenebe.

Expressing his gratitude for their return, Oshiomhole acknowledged their past contributions to the party and governance in the state, emphasizing the inclusive nature of the APC family. He stressed the importance of their involvement in the upcoming election, highlighting the need for a transparent process that would lead to the victory of the APC and its candidates.

In response, Frank Ilaboya, speaking on behalf of the returnees, described their decision as a homecoming, acknowledging the role Oshiomhole played in their political journey. He assured their commitment to the party’s vision and pledged to work diligently towards the success of the APC in the forthcoming election.

The reunion marks a significant development in Edo State’s political landscape, with the return of these experienced politicians bolstering the APC’s prospects in the upcoming electoral contest.
