Just In : Assembly stops Govt’s spending until Governor Fubara re-present Budget
The Rivers State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule, has suspended all state expenditures until Governor Siminalayi Fubara submits the 2024 budget to the House.
This action follows the expiration of a seven-day deadline set by the faction for Governor Fubara to present the budget.
During the session, Major Jack brought attention to the expiration of this ultimatum, prompting the Assembly to decide that Governor Fubara cannot authorize any spending from the state’s consolidated revenue fund. Additionally, ministries are barred from utilising public funds until the 2024 budget is formally presented.
It’s worth noting that in December 2023, Governor Fubara had the budget of 800 billion naira approved by lawmakers, then led by the former factional speaker, Mr. Edison Ehie.
