Just In : Akpabio Reveals Why NASS Increased Budget by Over N1trn
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has defended the National Assembly’s decision to augment the 2024 budget by a significant N1.28 trillion.
The justification, as articulated by Akpabio, revolves around the imperative for human capital development and addressing the pressing needs of Nigerians, particularly in the realms of school feeding programs and bolstering national security.
Akpabio clarified that the initial budget proposal of N27.5 trillion, submitted by President Bola Tinubu, was revised upward to N28.78 trillion to accommodate these critical sectors.
Speaking to state house correspondents after the budget signing ceremony, Akpabio emphasized the verifiable justifications behind this adjustment.
The Senate President revealed that President Tinubu expressed contentment with the National Assembly’s proactive stance in augmenting the budget.
Tinubu commended the swift and efficient handling of the budget, acknowledging the additional funds earmarked for human capital development and addressing the challenges posed by school feeding and the security situation in the country.
Akpabio assured the public that the signing ceremony transpired seamlessly, highlighting the collaboration between the National Assembly and the executive branch in closely monitoring the budget’s implementation.

In his New Year message, Akpabio conveyed gratitude for witnessing the historic signing of the 2024 budget into law by President Tinubu.
He emphasized the significance of returning the country to the January to December budget cycle, praising the President for prioritizing this national duty during the yuletide period
