Iran Seeks To Avoid Regional Escalation, But Says It’s Necessary To ‘Punish’ Israel
Iran has vowed to retaliate against Israel following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last week, which it blames on the Jewish state.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, stated on Monday during a press conference that while Iran seeks to avoid escalating regional tensions, it feels compelled to retaliate against Israel for the alleged assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last week, according to a report by i24 news.
“Tehran is not interested in escalating the regional conflicts, but it is necessary to punish Israel,” he said.

Despite expectations of an even larger attack, US Secretary of State Blinken has emphasised that the nature and scope of the potential assault remain uncertain.
The US has expressed concerns that an Iranian attack could escalate into a broader regional conflict, drawing in multiple countries and leading to wider instability.
