IPOB Reportedly Attack Enugu Police Headquarters, Kill Officer, Cart Away Weapons
Suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), have attacked the Awgu Divisional Police Headquarters in Enugu State, killing one police officer and looting arms.
Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the assailants launched the attack in the early hours of March 24, 2025, arriving in large numbers and firing sporadically while throwing explosives at the police facility.
The sources said that the Commissioner of Police in Enugu, upon receiving the report, deployed Deputy Commissioner of Operations alongside Special Forces, the Police Mobile Force (PMF), the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), and other tactical teams to reinforce the division.
Troops of the Nigerian Military from the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies were also alerted.
The attack resulted in the death of Police Constable Akpa Emmanuel, while the gunmen made away with one AK-47 rifle and two riot guns.
Meanwhile, another attack was reported at the Inyi Divisional Police Headquarters around 2:00 a.m. the same day.
However, security forces, including policemen from the division and a Joint Task Force comprising military, Police personnel, successfully repelled the gunmen without any casualties or damage.
