Imo Teachers Commend Obioma Okafor for Initiating Inter School Debates.
The teachers of both public and private secondary schools in Imo have commended the Director General Imo Consumer Protection Council (CPC), Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor for initiating inter school debate competition in Imo State. The program has really helped both the schools and the students to easily integrate and exchange academic, intellectual and social values for the betterment of the state at large.
Rev. Sis. Blessing Nwosu, the Head Teacher of Maria Goretti Umudioka Orlu who disclosed this at the runoff debate competition for all the schools in Orlu zone held yesterday, 1st November, 2022 at Imo CPC auditorium.
According to Rev. Sis Blessing, the program needs to be sustained as it would go a long way to inculcate in the students the spirit of sportsmanship, public speaking skills, self confidence and capacity to face challenges in the future.
She further stated that Imo CPC and indeed the 3R administration of Senator Hope Uzodimma deserves a pat on the back for Initiating this noble program. “What we have seen so far in this debate competition, there is evidence of focus, commitment and a clear interest by the DG Imo CPC in promoting consumer education and empowering our children to know their basic rights as consumers.
The Director General Imo State Consumer Protection Council (CPC) Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor, hinted that the program is part of the state government’s determination to improve consumer protection in Imo.
According to her, about 72 public and private secondary school students representing 18 schools in Orlu zone participated in the yesterday runoff debate competition where Urban Secondary School Umuna, Orlu took the first position while Maria Goretti Umudioka Orlu took the second position. These two Schools will compete with other schools that emerged from Okigwe and Owerri zones at the grand finale on Tuesday, 8th November, 2022 for the overall first position in the state.
The program is tagged “Shared Prosperity Catch Them young Initiative” which is aimed at stimulating intellectual development and healthy competition among public and private secondary school students.
Mrs Okafor, DG Imo CPC, explained that the competition is a step further in Imo CPC’s strategic contributions towards uplifting educational system in the state as well as intensify the fight against fake and adulterated products through consumer education.
“The council under the administration of senator Hope Uzodimma will continue to engage in such activities that will encourage our young ones to embrace education and focus on their studies,” she declared.
