Imo NUJ Chairman Receives ASCPN Executive Members

The Imo State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists Chief Chris Akaraonye within the week had an interface with the executive members of Association of Communication Scholars and Professional of Nigeria, Imo state chapter in his office at the NUJ new secretariat, new Owerri.

Chief Akaraonye said that he was happy with the formation of the Owerri chapter of the Association because it will enhance the cooperation of communication associations in Imo State.

The Chairman promised to partner with the Association in the State to achieve its goal. He assured the executive that members of NUJ will join the Association to enhance their profession through interaction.

Explaining their reason for their visitation, the chairman of the Association Dr. Mrs. Adlin Nkwam-Uwaoma said that, they came to introduce the existence of the Association in Imo State to the NUJ Chairman while stressing the need for journalists in the state to embrace the Association.

According to her, the Association will not only enhance their Journalism knowledge but will give them the opportunity to acquire other skills like knowledge got through research, attending seminars with other professional bodies in communication, journals publications, UNESCO Scholarship and other numerous benefits too many to mention.

Speaking Mr. Peter Dibia, the secretary of the Association, affirmed that the Association was created in 2014 to give room for scholars and professionals in communication field to come together with the purpose of promoting professionalism and to better the society through communication.

He noted that ACSPN aim is to support the process of shaping communication scholarship, training and practice in Nigeria while complementing the work of other bodies with similar aims and building on the potentials of the needs of the country for critical inputs from communication scholars and professionals to shape and promote growth and development.

Also, in her contribution, the treasurer of the Association, Mrs. Peggy Okodogbe said the Association is committed to advancing the scholarly study and professional practice of communication by promoting and facilitating the pursuit of excellence in academic research and media practice of communication by promoting and facilitating the pursuit of excellence in an academic research and media practice in Nigeria.

She appreciated the NUJ Chairman on behalf of the Association, and pleaded with him to appeal to his executive members to join the Association.
