The General Manager of Imo State Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO), Hon. Franklin Nkem Nzewodo, has told all car dealers selling within the major streets in Owerri metropolis to leave the road and occupy the empty land allocated to them at Avu, Owerri West, by government.

The ENTRACO boss gave the directive recently in Owerri, when some group of journalists visited him at his office, along Naza/Aba Road, Owerri.

According to him, he was given a clear directive by Governor Hope Uzodimma to clear any illegal area occupied by street traders, noting that the commission has the mandate to maintain environmental cleanliness and beautification in the state.

Nkem stated that government through the commission is trying to make sure that Imo State is very clean for people to move around without traffic jam. “We have told them to leave this illegal areas, especially those selling cars along the road, they will not hear, but once we start to run after them, people will bring sentiment inside it. We have given those selling cars under the bridge leading to Wetheral Road to vacate the area within the time frame given to them”.

He told the traders who trade along the road to henceforth go to various market places and occupy them to avoid the commission seizing their goods. The markets he mentioned include Egbeada, Alaba, Relief and the temporarily Mother and Care Hospital Old New market.

Nkem affirmed that under the Shared Prosperity government led by Governor Hope Uzodimma, the commission had declared zero tolerance to street trading in Owerri metropolis.
