IMO CPC RENEWS WAR ON SUBSTANDARD PRODUCTS

In a determined efforts to combat unwholesome products in imo State, CPC has intensified routine factory inspection. Under the shared prosperity administration of Gov. Hope Uzodimma which anchored on 3’R’ mantra, Imo CPC has been highly proactive in curbing the menace of substandard products in the state in order to protect and safeguard the health and interests of consumers.

Meanwhile, the hard-working DG of imo state CPC, Hon. Mrs Obioma Okafor and her team are unrelenting in their commentments and efforts to reduce the prevalence of fake and substandard products in imo State.

Since the beginning of May 2021, the council started a state-wide inspection of all the factories and industries in imo State to ascertain if the factories are complying with the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

The factories visited so far, includes table water factories, bakeries, pure uwater/yoghurt factories, brewery, warehouse, automobile Industry, etc. in the three senatorial districts in imo State, and part of the GMP inspected is the use of appropriate manufacturing equipments and facilities by manufacturers to ensure that adequate controls and measures are in place for production of quality products.

Speaking during the exercise, the leader of the team, Chief Don Onwukike, said the routine factory inspection is extremely important because substandard products are dangerous to human health which are mostly as result of poor manufacturing practices.

According to Mr. Onwukike, “this is one of the strategic plans of the present DG imo CPC, to reduce substandard products in imo State”. Thus, there are some unpatriotic business men and women who are still involved in the manufacturing and distribution of substandard products, despite the efforts of the present Government in tackling the menace in imo state. He added that the exercise revealed that some people still do things the wrong way. He went further to assure imolites that the special taskforce created by the DG CPC imo State are ever ready and vigilant to ensure the quality of products manufacturers push into the markets for public consumption.

Continued, the team leader, Mr Onwukike disclosed that fake and standard products, particularly consumables have become a global problem that poses enormous public health challenges in Nigeria. However, CPC , in fulfilment of its statutory mandate, adopts several regulatory tools to monitor and modify behaviour of manufacturers, of which factory inspection is one.
