The ranking lawmaker who is the chairman House Committee on Education sponsored a motion to look into the causes of delay in tertiary institutions in the state in the processing and approval of instruments from the institutions such as Statement of Result, Certificate and Transcript.

The erudite legislator noted that students and graduates of tertiary institutions in the state have been saddled with the odious reality of unnecessary delays in processing their results, collecting certificate and obtaining Transcripts even after graduation from the institutions. This unfortunate situation leads to huge extortion of the people and in most cases causes loss of the opportunities they intend to secure either for employment or for further academic strides.

The embarrassment such delays cause the students and graduates adds to the lack of respect foreign institutions accord to Nigerian graduates because of sluggish process and poor institutional interface. She wondered why tertiary institutions cannot enable online interface such that relationship with other institutions will be seamless and requests responded to without delay.

The Amazon of the 9th house prayed the honourable house to urge the authorities of the respective institutions to investigate the causes of the delay with a view to putting an end to it and as well for the Ministry of Education to initiate policy on education to address the shameful delay in extracting such vital instruments from the tertiary institutions in the state.

Many ugly cases and situations were narrated about how people lost employment opportunity in the USA because letter of request to attest that certain graduates of the institutions were sent to the institutions and they failed to respond to it even after it was confirmed that they received the requests. Many have as well lost admission abroad because of failure to transmit Transcript within a given time.

Dr Uju Onwudiwe therefore condemned the unnecessary delays and secured the approval of the house to issue an ultimatum to the institutions to see such delays ended for the good of Imo citizens and students of the various tertiary institutions.
