Housewife in court for arranging herself to be kidnapped, plans to collect ransom from Husband
An Abeokuta Magistrates Court on Friday detained Rahmat Abdulateef, aged 32, for allegedly staging her own kidnapping with the aim of extorting money from her husband.
The defendant, who did not enter a plea, faced a charge of self-kidnapping during her arraignment.
Police prosecutor, Adekunle Opayemi, informed the court that the incident occurred on June 20 around 2:42 p.m. at Elite Road in Abeokuta. He alleged that Abdulateef orchestrated her abduction to demand money from her husband, Mr. Ogunbummi Lateef.
Opayemi stated that this action violated Section 27 of the Ogun State 2016 law, which prohibits forcible occupation of property, armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and related offenses.
Magistrate Mrs. O.O Odumosun ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison for 60 days pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The case was adjourned until September 19 for further proceedings.
