Wakili Boya, a member of the House of Representatives representing Fufore/Song constituency in Adamawa State, has proudly claimed credit for securing the recruitment of 200 constituents into the Nigeria Police Force.
Posing in a photograph with the newly recruited officers, Boya stated that he was able to secure 200 slots for his constituency out of the 10,000 available positions nationwide.
The 10,000 police constables recruited in 2024 by the Nigeria Police Force passed out of various police colleges, on Thursday, January 23, 2025 after training for six months.
The new policemen have been posted to their states of origin for community policing.
Meanwhile, the lawmaker’s claim has raised fundamental questions about the integrity and transparency of the recruitment process.
Many Nigerians took to social media to express their concerns about how one person was allocated 200 slots for his constituents in two local government areas of Adamawa State, despite assertions that the recruitment process was transparent.
SaharaReporters learned from the recruitment breakdown that each of the 774 local government areas in Nigeria was allocated 10 slots.
Additionally, members of the House of Representatives were given two slots each, totalling 720 recruits, while senators received three slots each, amounting to 327 recruits.
“How then was Boya alone allocated 200 recruits?” a social media influencer, Sani Ali, queried.
Ali, therefore, called for an inquiry into the recent recruitment exercise, urging the Nigeria Police Force to provide full transparency on the matter.
“Rather than celebrating Hon. Boya’s misleading claim, we should be asking questions about the integrity of the recruitment process. What safeguards are in place to prevent favoritism and ensure merit-based recruitment?
“How can we trust the process when politicians claim undue credit?
“Let’s prioritise transparency and accountability over political grandstanding. The Nigerian people deserve to know the truth about the recruitment process and how it serves the nation’s best interests.
“The lack of transparency and potential misinformation are concerning, especially when it comes to sensitive topics like police recruitment and national security,” another Nigerian, D D Michika Luwa, posted on his Facebook page.
