House of Reps order removal of 24 ministries, agencies
The House of Representatives has recommended removing several government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) from the 2025 federal budget due to their failure to account for previously allocated funds and internally generated revenue.
This decision was discussed during a special session of the Public Accounts Committee in Abuja, where lawmakers expressed frustration over the persistent non-compliance of these agencies in attending hearings or submitting financial reports.
The committee explained that excluding these agencies from the budget is intended to enforce accountability and encourage them to provide the required clarifications and comply with financial regulations.
“This move aims to ensure public funds are utilized effectively and transparently,” the committee stated.
A total of 24 MDAs were flagged for non-compliance. Some of the institutions and agencies recommended for removal include:
National Examinations Council (NECO)
University of Ibadan (UI)
Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment
Nigeria Police Force
Federal Medical Centre, Bida
Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria
Department of Information and Communication Technology
Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba
Federal College of Education, Yola
Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe
