House of Assembly Speaker to feed 15,000 Muslims for Ramadan
The Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman, has disclosed that he has a target of feeding 15,000 Muslim faithful in the month of Ramadan.
Sulaiman made the disclosure on Monday while gifting another batch of food items to 200 women in the Ningi Local Government Area of the state.
He explained that the succour provided to the 200 women was to complement an already existing feeding program of 500 individuals throughout the Ramadan period.
He said, “It has been our aim to ease hardship on our people. As a result of this, we have already started feeding over 500 individuals since the beginning of Ramadan.
“The aim is to feed 15,000 people throughout Ramadan.”
He urged men to be up and doing by working hard to provide feeding item to their families.
“If they don’t provide for their families, that means they are failing in their responsibilities as husbands,” he said.
Sulaiman equally urged the beneficiaries not to sell the food items but rather to feed their homes with them.
Also speaking, the wife of the Speaker, Hafsat Abubakar, who noted that the palliative can not meet all the needs of the beneficiaries,
called on women to learn petty trades in order to assist in feeding their respective families.
On her part, one of the beneficiaries of the palliative who spoke with Arewa PUNCH, Jamila Zakarai, stated that together with her husband, they struggle to feed their 11 children.
“As I speak to you, we woke up with nothing to eat today. Our condition is so terrible that even detergent we can not buy for ourselves.
“I have a husband, and we struggle together,” she stated.
Jamila added that her family was in dire hardship such that none of them has the privilege to go to school as they engage in one business or the other to eke a living for the entire family.
