House of Assembly member Aide Tenders Resignation Over N30,000 Salary, Alleges Non-Payment For Several Months
In a resignation letter addressed to the lawmaker and said to have been forwarded to the state governor, the aide who is also the Aviara Clan Youths President, lamented that the house committee chairman on health has continued to neglect and deny political aides of their salaries and other entitlements due them.
Victor Okiemute Itakwele, aide to the member representing Isoko South constituency 11 and former majority leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Ferguson Onwo, has tendered his resignation letter over his unpaid monthly salary.
In a resignation letter addressed to the lawmaker and said to have been forwarded to the state governor, the aide who is also the Aviara Clan Youths President, lamented that the house committee chairman on health has continued to neglect and deny political aides of their salaries and other entitlements due them.
The letter obtained by SaharaReporters read in parts: “Please accept this letter as formal notice of my resignation from my position as a political aide, effective 16/03/2025. The reason for my resignation is the neglect of political aide entitlements, which has made it challenging for me to perform my duties effectively. Despite my efforts and dedication, I have not received the necessary support and resources to excel in my role.
“I appreciate the opportunities I’ve had while working with you, and I’m grateful for the experience and knowledge gained during my tenure. However, I feel it’s essential to prioritise my well-being and career development. I will do everything possible to ensure a smooth transition of my responsibilities and complete any outstanding tasks before my departure. If there’s anything specific you’d like me to focus on during my remaining time here, please let me know. Thank you again for the opportunity to work with you.”
Speaking with SaharaReporters, a source who is familiar with the issue disclosed that the letter had been forwarded to the governor, adding that “You pay a whole man with a family N30,000 per month which comes by pleading and not even every month. Impoverishing Isoko youths. How can they grow? You cannot be a leader by playing on people’s weaknesses. Isoko cannot move forward with supposed leaders of this character and traits,” the source stated.
All efforts to reach the member representing Isoko South constituency 11, Ferguson Onwo, failed as his mobile phone was switched off as at the time of filing this report.
However, SaharaReporters gathered that the issue has been resolved between the aide and the lawmaker following the swift intervention of some political leaders in Isoko nation.
Recall that In April, 2024, one Enahoro Erijoh, private secretary to the member representing Isoko South constituency 11 and former majority leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Ferguson Onwo had also tendered his resignation letter over alleged salary deduction by the lawmaker.
The resignation letter which was copied to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the Chief of Staff (CoS), the state Assembly Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor, Solomon Ogba, and the chairman of the Delta Rescue Network (DRN), reads, “Sir, you know that out of the N250,000 per month that I was paid all through the 7th Assembly (June 2019 – May 2023), I remitted N130,000 to you monthly. At the inception of this dispensation, I sent the attached note of 21-06-2023 to you requesting that my salary be untampered with, if you will still need my services which you consented to.”
Meanwhile, Onwo however, dismissed the allegations saying, it lacked merit and were unfounded.
