Hoodlums Attack PDP Candidate
Reports from Obubra Local Government Area indicate that there was no election held in Obubra Urban Ward on the scheduled day, Saturday, 2nd November 2024.
The situation became tense following a violent attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) councilorship candidate, Hon. ThankGod Ekong.
According to eyewitness accounts, Ekong was attacked by a group of unidentified hoodlums, leaving him with multiple machete cuts.
The assault was so severe that he nearly bled to death, and he was quickly transported to a nearby clinic where he is reportedly receiving urgent medical attention.
Further investigation by THE BEAGLE NEWS revealed troubling allegations surrounding the elections in Osopong I and Osopong II, also within the Obubra area.
The paper’s Reporter alleges that voting did not take place at official polling stations in these wards, claiming that election materials were relocated to the residence of a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, where a large number of votes were allegedly thumb-printed in favour of the APC.
The incident has stirred significant concern among PDP supporters, who view Osopong I and II as traditional strongholds for the PDP.
One source expressed their dissatisfaction, emphasising, “Osopong I and II are still PDP strongholds, and this situation will not change.”
As of this report, there has been no official statement from electoral authorities regarding the alleged irregularities, nor any comment from the APC on the accusations.
The situation in Obubra underscores the ongoing challenges in ensuring a free and fair election process, and community members are calling for an immediate investigation to address the reported violence and irregularities.
