The Special Assistant to the Governor of Ondo State on Emergency Response, Hon. (Prince) Wellington Oriade Adebawo has officially launched a robust campaign against the perilous act of fuel scooping, following the tragic incident at Dikko Junction in Gurara Local Government Area, Niger State. The devastating accident claimed the lives of over 80 people and left many others gravely injured while attempting to siphon fuel from a damaged tanker.

In light of this heartbreaking event, Hon. Adebawo is making a clarion call to the citizens of Ondo State to refrain from engaging in fuel scooping, highlighting the fatal risks it poses to individuals, their loved ones, and the entire community. He emphasized that this reckless behavior not only endangers lives but also devastates families and can cause widespread property damage.

The Governor’s aide passionately appealed to political, religious, and community leaders, urging them to use their platforms to discourage this dangerous practice among those under their influence. “We cannot afford to lose more lives to this senseless act. Fuel scooping is not only illegal but extremely hazardous, and it’s time we took a firm stand against it,” he stated.

Hon. Adebawo assured the public that his team is gearing up to launch an extensive awareness campaign across Ondo State. This initiative will include public sensitization programs aimed at educating citizens on the deadly consequences of fuel scooping and promoting safety-first responses to road accidents involving fuel tankers.

According to him, “We must be proactive in protecting our people from these avoidable tragedies,” He noted that the campaign will partner with local organizations, media outlets, and key stakeholders to ensure the message reaches every corner of the state.

Hon. Adebawo added that his office is determined to safeguard the lives of Ondo State’s citizens and prevent similar incident of this devastating nature in the state.
