Hon. Kelvin Solomon Olaolu Advocates for Balance Between Politics and Education at NAOSS Leadership Symposium.
Yesterday, Hon. Kevin Solomon Olaolu, the Senior Special Assistant on Student Affairs to the Ondo State Governor graced the highly anticipated Leadership Symposium organized by the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS). The event, held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, witnessed the presence of student leaders, government officials, and stakeholders from across the state. The theme, “Bridging the Gap Between Politics and Education,” resonated deeply with the audience, setting the stage for a dynamic discourse on the intersection of education and political engagement.
Delivering the keynote address, the SSA on Student Affairs, who is known for his student-centric advocacy, tackled the topic with an insightful lecture that captivated attendees. His presentation was a clarion call to students, emphasizing the critical importance of education as a foundation for political involvement and future leadership.
In his lecture, the SSA emphasized that students should not view politics and education as two conflicting paths but as complementary forces that can help shape their futures. “Education is the bedrock of any society, and it is through education that we empower ourselves to effect meaningful change in politics and governance,” he stated, underscoring the pivotal role of knowledge in shaping political ideologies, policies, and governance strategies.
He urged students to focus on excelling academically, while also being politically conscious and active, as these two areas are essential for their future roles in nation-building. He cautioned against allowing political engagements to derail their academic pursuits, stressing that without a solid educational foundation, the effectiveness and integrity of future leaders could be compromised.
“Education should not be sacrificed on the altar of political ambition. The balance between these two forces is key to becoming effective leaders of tomorrow,” the SSA added. He further called on student leaders to be torchbearers of this balance by actively participating in political discourse and student governance, while maintaining academic excellence as a priority.
The SSA’s speech was rich with practical advice on navigating the often-complex relationship between politics and education. He shared his own experiences as a former student leader, recounting the challenges he faced balancing activism and academics. He also emphasized the importance of ethics and values, encouraging students to engage in politics with a sense of responsibility, honesty, and integrity.
He concluded his lecture by reaffirming the state government’s commitment to supporting students through various educational initiatives, including scholarships and leadership development programs aimed at grooming the next generation of responsible political leaders.
The Leadership Symposium was a resounding success, and the SSA’s address received widespread praise for its depth and relevance.
