On Tuesday, the Senate confirmed Olayemi Cardoso as the substantive Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
President Bola Tinubu, on September 15, endorsed Cardoso’s nomination as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria for an initial term of five years, pending Senate confirmation. He is set to succeed Godwin Emefiele, who purportedly resigned in August after being suspended by the President.
Cardoso, a seasoned banker, chartered stockbroker, and accomplished public policy expert, boasts a distinguished career spanning over four decades in various leadership and innovative roles across the public
Some of his notable positions include Commissioner in the Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Chairman of the board of the African Venture Philanthropy Alliance, and most recently, Chairman of Citibank Nigeria Ltd for 12 years, until his resignation in 2022.
