Over the past couple of days, Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has been in the news for publicly pleading for help which sparked conversations about her health and financial struggles. In the videos that Halima Abubakar made on her social media, she wasn’t clear about what exactly she was struggling with and people have till today been speculating about the real reason behind her appeal with some even questioning if she has been faking the whole thing in an attempt to get money.

Well, now Halima Abubakar is finally speaking out in a new interview with Saturday Beats and revealing the heartbreaking reality of what she’s going through.

During the interview, Halima Abubakar explained why she decided to go public with her struggles saying:

HALIMA ABUBAKAR: I knew I was getting serious. And when I was in the village, I just thought within me, is this how it’s going to end? What I am going through has not been easy. It is something that takes one’s happiness away and makes one so angry. But, one has to look at the positive side of life and just keep struggling. I know that this won’t last forever.

For many of her fans, coming online to see her asking for help was surprising and scary, but Halima explained that she reached a point where she had no choice but to speak out saying:

HALIMA ABUBAKAR: I had to find the strength to go public. I don’t know how, but I just had to do it. A closed mouth is a closed destiny, and I’m not ready to die. And I don’t want to ask the same people again. How would people know that I need help (if I don’t speak out)? God has given me strength to battle a lot of things that people don’t know about.

Halima’s words paint a picture of someone who has been struggling in silence for a long time but finally had to break her silence. Halima also opened up about how she has been managing her medical expenses and the kind of support she has received so far saying:

HALIMA ABUBAKAR: A lot of people have been wonderful, and two of my friends have been particularly helpful. Aside from that, it has just been God, myself and the help I have been getting recently.

Despite her struggles, Halima revealed that some people in Nollywood have been dismissing her claims and spoke about the people accusing her of lying. She said:

HALIMA ABUBAKAR: The people saying that I am lying are a few Nollywood people; don’t mind them. They are all people from my industry. I don’t care about that.

She also had some advice for people who may find themselves in a similar situation, reminding them to focus on the people who genuinely care for them. Halima said:

HALIMA ABUBAKAR: Trust yourself, and take care of your families because those are the only people who wish you good.
