Gunshots, chaos as Police arrest 11 in Suleja youth clash
At least eleven suspected hoodlums and miscreants have been arrested for thuggery and breach of public peace following a violent clash in the Chaichainiya area of Kaduna Road, Suleja, Niger State.
The unrest, reportedly triggered by a dispute involving suspected love interests, escalated into a violent confrontation with dangerous weapons, during which gunshots were heard, causing panic in the area.
Confirming the incident in a press statement on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed that the police received reports of the altercation at approximately 11:00 p.m. on March 6, 2025.
According to the statement, “On 6/3/2025 at about 11:00pm, reports were received that youths and some secondary school students were fighting at Chaichainiya area of Kaduna road over issues of lovers led by one Umar Idris of same area”.
It was further highlighted that, “it was reported that during the fracas, gunshots were said to have been heard from different directions which allegedly hit two victims on their laps, one Nura and Imrana, both 10 and 11yrs respectively”.
Abiodun confirmed that during a covert police operation, eleven suspects, including the alleged ringleader Umar Idris, were apprehended and are currently under investigation.
He also noted that preliminary investigations suggest that a personnel of a sister security agency was responsible for the shooting that resulted in injuries to the two victims.
He assured that further investigations were being conducted to ensure justice and necessary actions are taken.
