Gunmen abduct five farmers in Kwara community
The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of five farmers in the Odo-Eku community in the Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State by unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday.
The Kwara State Police Command while reacting to an inquiry by newsmen in a statement on Thursday said that the five farmers who are of Northern origin but residents in the Odo-Eku community were kidnapped in their home in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The Police in a statement signed by Superintendent of Police, Police Public Relations Officer, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun said, “Kwara Police Command is aware of a kidnap incident that occurred at about 0115hours of 15/01/25 at the Odu-Eku Camp in Odueku Community of the Isin LGA of Kwara State; where 5 persons were kidnapped.
“Two males and three females have been moved to an unknown location.
“Immediate deployment has long taken place; the Police, alongside the Vigilante, are on a rescue mission.
“Further updates will be communicated as it unfolds.”
Punch Metro gathered that gunmen suspected to be kidnappers abducted five individuals, including a mother and her daughter, in Odo-Eku, a community in Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The assailants, it was further gathered stormed the community under the cover of darkness and whisked their victims away to an unknown location on Wednesday.
A community leader simply identified as Elder Ogundeji, the Odofin of Odo-Eku, revealed that gunmen stormed the homes of their victims overnight, abducting five people.
“The victims are Hausa farmers who live in Odo-Eku and among them are a woman, her daughter, another woman who was visiting, and two men”, he said.
Ogundeji added that police officers had visited the scene. “We showed them where it happened, and they assured us they would investigate and work to rescue the victims.”
“Since yesterday (Wednesday) morning, the combined Vigilante group including those from other communities have gone into the forest in search of the abducted farmers”, Ogundeji further told our correspondent.
