The request, read during Tuesday’s plenary by the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Babayo Akuyam, was presented on behalf of Governor Bala Mohammed.

Akuyam explained that the governor is seeking approval in line with Section 122 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to fast-track the execution of priority projects aimed at improving the welfare of Bauchi residents.

“The governor is committed to accelerating infrastructural development, human capital growth, and enhancing the health and education sectors,” Akuyam said, quoting the letter from Governor Mohammed.

In addition, the House has also moved to establish a Food Security and Nutrition Committee aimed at addressing hunger and malnutrition in the state.

Presenting the motion, the Majority Leader, Akuyam, stated that the committee would focus on improving the nutritional status of Bauchi citizens, particularly the most vulnerable groups, including women, children, and internally displaced persons.

“The committee’s role includes ensuring the implementation of food and nutrition initiatives under the State Ministry of Budget, Economic Planning, and Multilateral Coordination, in line with the National Multisectoral Strategic Plan of Action for Food and Nutrition,” Akuyam added.
