Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has pardoned 10 inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service in the state.

The state NCoS spokesman, Sani Jahun, made this known in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Dutse, on Monday.

Jahun said the inmates were pardoned by the governor after they were recommended by the Advisory Council for Prerogative of Mercy.

“The Advisory Council for the Prerogative of Mercy in Jigawa, during its first sitting in 2025, recommended the release of 10 inmates across the state.

“And in the spirit of Ramadan fasting and Sallah celebration, Governor Namadi approved the release of the recommended inmates,” the statement read.

He explained that while handing over the executive order to the NCoS command, the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Abdulqadir Fanini, urged the beneficiaries to be of good conduct and refrain from committing crimes in future.

Receiving the order, the Controller of Corrections in the state, Yusuf Lakpene, on behalf of the Controller-General of NCoS, Sylvester Nwakuche, appreciated the governor for the gesture.

The spokesman added that Lakpene also charged the released inmates to be of good conduct and to put into use all the training they received while in custody.

According to him, six of the inmates were released from Medium Security Correctional Centre, Gumel, two from MSCC Hadejia and two from Birnin Kudu Farm Centre.

Jahun explained that five of the beneficiaries were released on probation, one due to illness (chronic liver failure), while four others were released unconditionally.

He added that all the released inmates were given a stipend for transportation to celebrate Sallah.
