Governor Ododo Orders End of TCC Requirement for Student Registration in Kogi Universities

The Governor of kogi state, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has ordered that Tax Clearance Certificate, TCC, should no longer be a requirement for registration of students in kogi -owned universities, Ododo orders.
The Executive Chairman, Kogi State Internal Revenue, Service KGIRS, Alhaji Salihu Sule Enehe, disclosed this during a media chat with journalists in the state on Wednesday in Lokoja,citing the governor’s order to that effect.
According to him, while parents and guardians are no longer required to present a TCC for registering children and wards to pursue their educational ambitions, KGIRS will ensure that every taxable citizen pays their taxes to contribute to development.
He also warned that tax evasion could lead to penalties, including fines and, in some instances, up to six months in jail.
Our correspondent recalls that the TCC issue sparked significant outcry in the state last week, as many parents and guardians of children and wards who could not provide this requirement for registration at the three state-owned universities were turned away.
Regarding the achievements of his administration in 2024, the KGIRS boss revealed that the service generated N27.7 billion that year, adding that the revenue organization plans to generate N35.1 billion in 2025.
Regarding illegal revenue collectors in the state, Enehe stated that the Service is actively working to eliminate such illicit activities, mentioning that 41 individuals have been arrested and are currently facing legal proceedings.
He, therefore, called on journalists to collaborate with his administration in exposing these illegal tax collectors.
Our correspondent reports that nearly all the journalists, in their comments at the event, praised the executive chairman and his team for their diligent efforts in generating revenue for the state’s development.
