Governor names technical adviser for humanitarian, poverty alleviation ministry
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has named Dr Aminu Magashi as the Technical Adviser for the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
The appointment, effective from September 28, 2024, was confirmed by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, in a press statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday.
The governor highlighted Magashi’s credentials, recalling his decade-long dedication to public service, as well as his commitment to improving and adding value to underserved communities in the state.
The governor’s choice is “a reflection of his deep trust for Magashi’s expansive experience and proven leadership, as well as recognising him as a pivotal figure in achieving the administration’s humanitarian goals,” according to the statement.
With over 30 years of experience in development and humanitarian activities, Magashi is appreciated for his influential and result-oriented initiatives.
The statement noted that Magashi served as the “Chairman of the AMG Foundation, championing the Health Policy and Planning Committee of the Nigerian Medical Association, and his pioneering role as the coordinator of the Kano State Cancer Care Centre.”
His strategic insights and leadership qualities were also vital as the Chairman of the Health transition committee, where he closely collaborated with the governor to craft a transformative agenda for the state’s healthcare sector.
He also led the technical committee, which supported Yusuf to develop his campaign blueprint in 2022.
“Dr Magashi is expected to guide the ministry in developing impactful strategies towards addressing the urgent needs of communities in Kano State, laying the foundation for a more compassionate, resilient future for all,” the statement added.
PUNCH Online reports that the governor, in a live radio interview at the Government House, hinted at an imminent cabinet reshuffle, stating that he is reviewing the performance of his cabinet members.
Yusuf disclosed that he had received a report on the performance of his cabinet members and will soon take a decision on those who are underperforming.
The governor emphasised that his close association with the cabinet members over the past year and a half has given him insight into their capabilities, allowing him to make informed decisions about their future in the cabinet.
