Governor mourns as commissioner dies
Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has described the passing of the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Abubakar Ewa, as a colossal loss to the state and beyond.
Speaking on Saturday at Ewa’s burial in his hometown in the Boki Local Government Area, the governor—represented by his deputy, Peter Odey—paid tribute to the late commissioner’s dedication to public service.
“The demise of Abubakar Ewa is a great loss to Cross River State and beyond,” Otu said.
He hailed Ewa as more than just a politician, calling him a pivotal figure in Boki politics and a devoted public servant whose impact, particularly in tourism, arts, and culture, would not be forgotten.
“The people-first administration and the entire Cross River State mourn his passing. As a former Chairman of Boki Local Government Area, Abubakar worked tirelessly to uplift his people, earning widespread admiration and respect,” Otu added.
The governor extended his condolences to Ewa’s family, assuring them of the state’s solidarity in this difficult time.
