Governor Fubara moves out of government house
Suspended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reportedly vacated the Government House in Port Harcourt.
It was revealed that he left on Wednesday morning, paving the way for the newly appointed Sole Administrator, retired Admiral Ekwe Ibas, to take charge.
A security source disclosed that there was a complete change of guards as the previous security details had been replaced.
“The governor left this morning, and we are awaiting the new administrator’s arrival. Security arrangements have been reshuffled, but everything remains peaceful,” the source said.
Meanwhile, Port Harcourt residents are going about their daily activities as there are no signs of unrest.
President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers on Tuesday, citing pipeline vandalism and the failure of stakeholders to resolve the political crisis despite multiple interventions.
This came shortly after reports emerged that Governor Fubara and his family were allegedly held hostage at the Government House by heavily armed soldiers on Tuesday night.
The declaration of emergency follows a heated political conflict between Governor Fubara and lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike.
President Tinubu’s decision to suspend all involved parties from office for six months, effective Tuesday, has sparked debates across social media.
Many Nigerians are questioning whether the president has the constitutional authority to remove an elected governor who has not yet been impeached.
