Governor awards contracts for 209.7km of rural roads, three markets
The Ogun State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (OG-RAAMP) has awarded contracts for the construction and upgrading of 209.7km of rural roads across the state’s nine federal constituencies.
The project also includes interventions in three major markets, one in each of the state’s senatorial districts.
A document obtained by our correspondent in Abeokuta on Sunday revealed that the roads to be rehabilitated fall under backlog maintenance, total rehabilitation, and maintenance and rehabilitation categories.
The document was signed by the State Project Coordinator, Waheed Adejumo.
The markets selected for remodeling are Oja-Odan Market in Ogun West, Makun Omi Market in Ogun East, and Kila Market in Ogun Central.
The roads distribution is strategically targeted at areas known for high agricultural production to ease the movement of farm produce.
Adejumo assured the benefiting communities of the timely and quality delivery of the roads, stating that the contracts would adhere strictly to the requirements for rural roads as outlined by the funding partners.
“The days of the signing of these rural roads contracts are unique as well as they are important to us,” Adejumo remarked.
“They are the days the Ogun State Government, through its leadership, Governor Dapo Abiodun, spread shared development in rural areas to even communities that have written themselves off for reason of past abandonment.”
The OG-RAAMP project operates under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and is financed through a “tripodal mechanism” involving the “Ogun State Government, the World Bank, and the French Development Agency.”
The initiative, according to the release, is expected to significantly boost rural connectivity, enhance gtaccess to markets for local farmers, and stimulate economic growth across Ogun State’s rural communities.
