Government revokes 2024 signage and billboard licences
The Kwara State Government has revoked all 2024 signage and billboard licences across the state, warning that enforcement for removal will begin next week.
A statement issued on Sunday by the Chairman of the Kwara State Taskforce Committee on Illegal Billboards and Signages, who is also the Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, confirmed the revocation.
The statement, signed by the committee’s secretary, Ibrahim Garba, follows an earlier suspension of billboard licences.
The government said the move was necessary to clear unauthorised and improperly erected billboards, posters, and light pole banners, particularly in Ilorin and other urban areas.
The statement read, “The initiative aligns with the Urban Renewal Programme of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration, aimed at transforming Kwara into a modern and visually appealing state.
“No new registrations or renewals of signages and billboard licences will be processed until further notice.
“This temporary measure will allow the state to finalise a new regulatory framework for outdoor advertising.”
It urged owners of unauthorised billboards to remove them immediately, as identification is ongoing and enforcement will begin next week.
