Germany-Based Nigerian Hires Thugs To Discipline Brother Over ‘Theft Of Building Site Doors’, Leads To His Death

A28-year-old resident of Okpuno Umuogali in Oba community, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, identified as Kingsley Okoye, has been killed by three thugs reportedly sent by his Germany-based elder brother, Joseph Okoye.
Joseph Okoye reportedly orchestrated an attack on Kingsley on July 21, after Kingsley sold doors from Joseph’s new house to buy food without permission.
This incident followed a prior dispute where Joseph Okoye sold a shared family property and refused to share the proceeds with Kingsley, his brother, according to witness Kosisochukwu Samuel Uzoekwe, a cousin of the deceased.
Uzoekwe said, “Since then, life had been so difficult for Kingsley because he thought he could use his own share of the sale as a capital to establish himself.”
According to Uzoekwe, Joseph had recently begun constructing a house in Oba. Driven by hunger and desperation, Kingsley went to the building site, took three doors, and sold them.
He said, “When Kingsley leant that his elder brother just purchased some foreign doors to install in his new house, he went to the site and sold three doors, saying that he needed to buy food for himself.
“On hearing that Kingsley sold three of the doors from his building site, Joseph sent some money to her sister Ebele, who is married to an Umumpama man, instructing her to arrange for some thugs to beat up Kingsley and teach him the lesson of his life.”
Explaining further, Uzoekwe said, “Ebele contracted three persons namely Mr Samuel Arinze, popularly called Jukwaaese; one Emeka, popularly called DPO and a non-indigene of Oba called Moon Boy. They came to Okpuno Umuogali to beat Kingsley. When people intervened, they whisked him away on a bike.
“The trio took Kingsley to an unknown destination where they beat him to pulp. When they discovered that Kingsley was no longer responding, they took him to Sahara Hospital in Oba where the doctor confirmed that Kingsley was brought in dead.
“When the doctor rejected him, they took Kingsley’s corpse to FAH Hospital and Embalming Center where he was deposited in the morgue.”

However, when reached by phone, Ebele, the deceased’s sister accused by Uzoekwe of receiving money from Joseph to hire the thugs, denied any involvement. Ebele claimed she was attending her children’s graduation ceremony when she received news of the incident and stated that Joseph’s fiancée from Umuorabem in Oba, not her, was given the money to contract the thugs.
She said, “I am very sad because of the turn of events. Despite several pleadings, my mother and I pleaded with Joseph to forgive Kingsley for selling just three pieces of his doors, he went ahead to arrange with his fiancée from Umuorabem, who told his brother to contract people I do not know to beat up our brother, resulting in his unfortunate death.
“Everyone is pointing accusing fingers at me that I was the one who received money from my brother Joseph to arrange for the people who beat Kingsley to death but it is not so.
“I went for the graduation ceremony of my children that fateful Sunday only for Joseph to call me on the phone from abroad, informing me that Kingsley died at the hands of the people his fiancée and her fiancé’s brother called to discipline Kingsley by Joseph’s instructions.”
Joseph confessed to sending the thugs after his brother, accusing him of theft. Nevertheless, Joseph maintained that his goal was not to cause harm, but to recover the three doors he believed his brother had stolen.
He claimed that he merely wanted the thugs to find his brother and ascertain the location of the doors, in order to retrieve them for his building project.
Joseph said, “I have already tendered my statement to the DPO of Oba Police Station. My brother has been stealing from my building site and last Friday night, July 19, 2024, my workers discovered that three foreign doors which I bought for N85,000 each were missing and all fingers were pointing at my brother, Kingsley.
“I told my mother and sister to help me beg Kingsley to bring back my doors or tell me whom he sold the doors to but he denied stealing them.
“On Saturday, July 20, I contacted some boys from Umumpama in Oba to beat him and find out the whereabouts of the doors and Kingsley confessed that he stole those doors with two of his friends, namely Chime and Tochukwu. He said he sold them to a welder for N15,000 each.
“While they were beating him, I was with them on video call that Saturday and they assured me that Kingsley was still alive. I told them to take him to the nearest hospital for treatment after his confession.
“Surprisingly, I was shocked to hear from one of those boys on Sunday, July 21, that my brother Kingsley was dead. I asked them what happened and I could not put the story together. I later heard from the doctor that he was brought in dead and that Jukwaese and the boys ran away as soon as he was confirmed dead.
“My sister said that there were matchet cuts all over Kingsley’s body and that he was dripping blood at the mortuary but that was not the case on Saturday when I was following up with the interrogation on a video call.
“I insist that Arimze Jukwaese who is now at large must be apprehended to tell me why he killed my brother because I only told them to beat him a little so that he would reveal where my doors were so that I could recover them.
“I do not know the motive, why Jukwaese and his boys killed my brother. Wherever Jukwaese ran to, he must be fished out to explain why he killed my brother.”
SaharaReporters reached out to the Anambra State Police Command for a statement on the incident, but the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, was unavailable for comment. Despite multiple calls to his mobile phone number, he did not answer. A message was also sent to him on WhatsApp, but as of the time of filing this report, he had not responded.
