PRESS STATEMENT

OUTCOME OF THE ABUJA MEETING HELD ON FEBRUARY 3, 2025

The Council of Ondo North Youth Presidents, in collaboration with the leadership of the Ondo North Youth Alliance (ONYA), held a crucial meeting in Abuja on February 3, 2025, to address key issues affecting the youth of Ondo North Senatorial District.

One of the major concerns discussed was the alarming trend of certain individuals falsely presenting themselves as youth leaders across various Local Governments. These individuals have been exploiting their positions to secure empowerment packages, employment slots, and other opportunities meant for the youth—often diverting them from the rightful beneficiaries.

To address this issue, the Youth Presidents from each Local Government met with the Distinguished Senator representing Ondo North to discuss the way forward. A major point of discussion was the recent controversy where some individuals, after receiving over 200 bags of rice, laptops, empowerment materials, and employment slots meant for young people, turned around to blackmail and defame the Senator. Unfortunately, these manipulations have deprived many deserving youths of opportunities designed for their growth and development.

As part of the resolutions, the bona fide President representing the youths of Ondo North was formally introduced and recognized to ensure proper coordination and accountability in youth leadership. This marks a significant step toward eliminating the influence of self-imposed leaders and ensuring that youth-related engagements and opportunities are directed through legitimate and transparent structures.

In response, the Distinguished Senator reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and fairness in youth engagement. He pledged to strengthen collaboration between the Office of the Special Assistant to the Senator on Youth Affairs, the Ondo North Youth Alliance, and the Youth Presidents of each Local Government to ensure that all youth-focused initiatives are properly distributed and no longer hijacked by unauthorized individuals.

Another significant highlight of the meeting was the discussion on free JAMB registration for students across Ondo North, an initiative aimed at increasing access to education and providing support for young people seeking higher learning opportunities.

Furthermore, in recognition of the Senator’s dedication to youth development, responsiveness to the needs of young people, and unwavering commitment to his constituents, the Council of Ondo North Youth Presidents unanimously passed a vote of confidence in his leadership. This endorsement reflects the appreciation of the youth for his continued support and proactive engagement in issues affecting them.

The Council of Ondo North Youth Presidents sincerely appreciates the Distinguished Senator for his leadership and urges him to continue his good work. We pray that God grants him the strength and wisdom to keep delivering impactful governance.

Signed,
Council of Ondo North Youth Presidents (CONYP),
President, Ondo North Youth Alliance (ONYA)
