According to the FRSC boss, the auto crash involved a stationary Howo truck with registration number MAG831ZR, owned by Dan Nene Construction Company, and a Sharan minibus with registration number BAU124YF.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that no fewer than 12 people, including a child, died in a road accident that occurred along the Baimari-Geidam road in Yobe State.
The Sector Commander of the Yobe State FRSC, Corps Commander Livinus Yilzoom, confirmed the incident to journalists on Wednesday.
Yilzoom explained that the accident occurred at around 10pm on Tuesday at Km 20 near Chelluri village along the Baimari-Geidam road.
According to the FRSC boss, the auto crash involved a stationary Howo truck with registration number MAG831ZR, owned by Dan Nene Construction Company, and a Sharan minibus with registration number BAU124YF.
He said the minibus collided with the truck and caught fire, resulting in the deaths of all 12 occupants, whose bodies were burned beyond recognition.
Yilzoom noted that initial investigations indicated the crash was caused by an obstruction on the road, with excessive speed and overload being the underlying factors contributing to the accident.
He urged motorists to avoid traveling at night due to the hazards of poor visibility, particularly in the current hazy harmattan weather.
Yilzoom also called on all drivers to adhere to road safety regulations to prevent future tragedies and extended his condolences to the families of the victims.
