Residents of northern Gaza staged a rare public protest against Hamas, chanting “Hamas out” as they marched through the war-ravaged streets of Beit Lahiya.

The region has suffered immense destruction, with most structures reduced to rubble. In one widely shared video on X, protesters could be heard chanting, “Out, out, out, Hamas get out,” as they moved along a dusty road.
A banner held by demonstrators read, “Enough wars,” while others chanted, “We don’t want war.”
Reuters confirmed the location of the video using satellite imagery but could not verify the exact date. However, several posts indicated the protests took place on March 25.
Following a ceasefire in January, many displaced Palestinians returned to northern Gaza, only for Israeli forces to resume military operations on March 18.
The renewed fighting has resulted in nearly 700 deaths, mostly women and children, according to Palestinian health officials.
The war began after Hamas launched a deadly attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, killing over 1,200 people and seizing around 250 hostages.
Some captives were released during the ceasefire before the conflict reignited. Israel has since vowed to dismantle Hamas completely.
Hamas has ruled Gaza since 2007 after ousting the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority.
Under its control, opposition has been tightly restricted, with many Palestinians fearing retribution for speaking out.
