Former Local Council Chairman Ikpokpo Dumps PDP For APC, Cites Tinubu’s Performance

Former Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State and former state chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, (ALGON), Itiako Ikpokpo, popularly known as ‘Malik’, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
SaharaReporters learned that Ikpokpo had been actively involved in the local, state, and federal activities of the PDP. However, tensions arose before the 2023 general elections due to what sources described as the party’s “second-class treatment” of its members.
Our correspondent also gathered that trouble started for Ikpokpo when as a PDP member, he openly declared support for the governorship candidate of the APC and former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege in the 2023 governorship election in the state.
In a letter of resignation signed by Ikpokpo titled “Notice Of Resignation From Peoples Democratic Party”, addressed to Irri ward 11 Chairman of PDP, Samson Afeme and obtained by SaharaReporters, he said he has done a thorough review of the “impressive and courageous efforts of president Bola Tinubu”.
The letter, which was copied to Delta State PDP Chairman Solomon Areyinka, Delta South PDP Chairman Emmanuel Amgbaduba, and Isoko South PDP Chairman Campaign Akelegha, stated in part: “I have for a while reflected deeply on my political journey, the state and politics of the Nigeria nation and the political realities of my dear state of Delta.
“I have taken a thorough and keen review on the daunting, yet impressive and courageous effort of our dear president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Like none before him, Mr. President has demonstrated the courage and political willpower to reengineer the nation’s trajectory.
“Nigeria under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is without a doubt on the path of recovery. I have had deep conversations with leaders across the divide, extensively consulted my political friends and associates on the need to align with the progressives and believers of the Nigeria project in support of our dear president Ahmed Bola Tinubu which has become obviously compelling.
“In this regard, I wish to officially put on notice, my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), effective immediately. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been a home for me in the last 27 years, offered me opportunities for service and leadership and the privilege for enduring friendship and ties of a life time, I am grateful.
“It is however time to chart a new and progressive course in the interest of a better and reviewed Nigeria for our children and generations to come.”
