It was an event filled with immense fanfare as the digital Rector, Engr. Dr Michael Arimanwa FNSE, broke records with the inauguration of the Jamie Pajoel Scholarship scheme. The scholarship is a product of the Smart Campus Project of the digital Rector which has given the polytechnic global visibility. According to the President of the JPI Group, Jamie Pajoel, he saw the impressive works of the Rector on the internet hence he decided to reach out to the polytechnic with a scholarship fund.

While inaugurating the scholarship scheme, the Rector congratulated the benefitting students while urging them to sustain the tempo of their academic performance. He thanked the founder of the JPI Group for graciously reaching out to the institution that made him, with such a kind gesture, urging other alumni to follow suit. According to the smart chief executive, if other alumni could come and identify with their various departments as Jamie Pajoel had done, the polytechnic would be better for it.

In his remarks, Jamie Pajoel, President of the JPI Group, commended the Rector for his giant strides in the polytechnic which were visible from his base in Canada with the help of the internet. He declared with a sense of nostalgia that the Federal Polytechnic Nekede was a grooming ground for him, hence the compelling need to come back to the polytechnic to make useful investments.

The benefiting students who made the best results from the Department of Business Administration and Management were: Okelie Kenneth Ihechi (ND I), Onuh Chidere Precious (ND II), Ogbonna Nzoputa Chimezie (HND I) and Dara Chukwudi Sunday (HND II). Presenting the students to the Rector to be handed cheques worth One Hundred Thousand Naira each, the Head, Department of Business Administration and Management, Mr Udoka Oparaku, thanked the President, Jamie Pajoel International for reaching out to the polytechnic through the department he heads.

High point of the epoch-making event was a leadership training session conducted by the President of the JPI Group, where he inspired the large gathering at the occasion with an emotional story of his humble beginning – highlighting how he doggedly fared without his parents at the formative years of his life. While challenging students to change their perceptions and thought patterns, he urged them to transform from problem bearers to problem solvers.

The event was enlivened with performances by students in the areas of singing and dancing, while a raffle draw was conducted to spice up the occasion. Prizes were given to the best dancers and singers respectively, with consolation prizes to some student artistes that attended the event.

Those that graced the memorable event were the Deputy Rector (Academic), Dr Chris Onyemenonu, Deputy Rector (Administration), Dr Uzoma Ibeaja, Dr Chris Enyia (Librarian), the Registrar (represented by Dr Raymonda Obioha and the Bursar (represented by Mrs Ijeoma Ukwu). Others were the Dean, Students’ Affairs (represented by Mr Napoleon Onuoha) and Mrs Lilian Esiaga, Dean, School of Business and Management Technology, among others.
