The Governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Uzodinma today described the Federal Character Commission as a strong weapon to promote national unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Prof. Placid Njoku made the above affirmation at the two days national retreat organized by the commission with the theme: “Building cooperation for equitable delivery ” held at the Immaculate hotel, Owerri Imo state.
According to the number two citizen of Imo state, the commission was established by Nigeria’s forefathers to make the nation one and to promote unity in diversities. He also added that the Governor and the good people of Imo state, is delighted to host such a wonderful program, which is the first of it kind in the state.
Furthermore, He told the August visitors that Imo state, is the heartbeat of the southeast while revealing the Governor’s mind to make Imo as the best welcoming city in the country.
In her keynote address, the Executive Chairman of the commission, Dr. Muheeba F. Dankaka , said that the commission and representatives of all the state in Nigeria is there to converse and deliberate greatly on how the commission can contribute maximally to national stability which according to her, has being called to question in the recent time .
Going further, she explained that , the retreat will offered them the opportunity under a serene ambiance away from home to discuss and deliberate on how the commission fared and what needs to be done to meet up with the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians.
According to our findings, the practicality of the federal character commission task is a pivotal and Herculean one and requires the participation of all stakeholders.
She further noted that, their primary view is to ensure a strong Virile and indivisible nation that will be based on fairness, equity and Justice , with a view to promote national loyalty and to foster a sense of belonging among all Nigerians.
Lady Dankaka, further charged all the participants to come up with a workable document/ communiqué that will galvanise the commission towards its goal at this critical time in Nigeria and to create a modalities and strategies on how to engage state Governors to have state character commission in their various states.
Appreciating the Governor of Imo state on behalf of others, was the Deputy Governor of Tarabar State , His Excellency, Armayau Dawda Abubakar, who described Senator Hope Uzodinma as a man of peace and vision.
