Esther Adesina, mother of former Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Togo, Debo Adesina, has passed away.

A statement released on Thursday announced that Adesina, who was in her 90s, died on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

“Deaconess Esther Taiwo Ejide Adesina has died. She passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, well into her 90s,” the statement read.

The late Adesina was described as “a dutiful and faithful soldier of Christ, a loyal and devoted wife to her late husband, and a loving and caring mother to her children, both biological and adopted.”

The statement further highlighted her unwavering support for her family, calling her “a pillar of support for her nuclear and extended family” and “a selfless giver who embodied compassion in its truest form.”

It also praised her as “a gifted and self-taught intellectual with an unparalleled love for education and a lover of God with an undiluted vision of eternity.”

A long-time deaconess of the Baptist Church, Adesina was said to have left behind “a huge legacy of compassion, righteousness, and hard work.”

Among her children is Debo, a former ambassador and past Editor-in-Chief/Chief Operating Officer of The Guardian newspapers.
