Former Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, has accused the United States of being responsible for the death of Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi and his entourage in the helicopter crash that occurred on Sunday.

Zarif reportedly said that the US sanctions on Iran’s aviation industry led to the unfortunate incident that took the lives of President Raisi, Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, East Azarbaijan Province’s Governor, Malek Rahmati, and Mehdi Mousavi, the head of Raisi’s bodyguard team.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that officials and state media said on Monday confirmed the death of President Raisi in a helicopter crash in mountainous terrain near the Azerbaijan border.

 

 

The leader was a hardliner long seen as a potential successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

 

The charred wreckage of the helicopter which crashed on Sunday carrying Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and others was found early on Monday after an overnight search in blizzard conditions.

Iranian news agency IRNA reports that Zarif said on Monday that they would overcome the tragic event.

 

 

Zarif offered condolences over the death of President Raisi, Amirabdollahian, Rahmati, and Mousavi.

He reportedly added that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s war of aggression against Iran, the martyrdom of 72 of Imam Khomeini’s companions, the martyrdom of popular president Mohammad-Ali Rajaee, and the cruel sanctions against Iran were part of the difficult conditions that the Islamic Republic successfully overcame.

Zarif said that one of the causes of the heartbreaking incident is the US, which by sanctioning the sale of the aviation industry to Iran caused the martyrdom of the president and his companions, and the US’s crime will be recorded in the minds of the Iranian people and history.
