Ex-Governor Yahaya Bello begs for President Tinubu’s intervention, accuses EFCC of political bias
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been accused by the Media Office of former Kogi State Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello of conducting a politically motivated “hatchet job” against him.
The office has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and ensure a fair fight against corruption.
In a statement signed by Ohiare Michael, the media office claimed that the EFCC’s recent actions stem from undisclosed personal and political interests rather than a legitimate effort to combat corruption.
The statement condemned the agency’s conduct, describing its recent communications and activities as biased and raising concerns about the integrity of its operations.
This accusation follows the EFCC’s declaration of Bello as wanted, despite his recent appearance at the agency’s Abuja office, accompanied by his successor, Governor Usman Ododo.
On September 19, 2024, Bello visited the EFCC without being questioned, a situation the media office deemed contradictory and indicative of ulterior motives.
“If the EFCC was truly interested in prosecution, would the agency not have taken him in on that day?” the statement asked.
The media office reiterated its call for President Tinubu to address the situation, emphasising the need for impartiality in the fight against corruption.
