Embrace my wife’s N50m empowerment fund, Governor urges beneficiaries
The wife of the governor of Abia State, Mrs Priscilla Chidinma Otti, has urged the 1000 female beneficiaries of the N50 million recapitalization fund opportunity from Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to embrace the opportunity with determination.
Mrs Otti advised at the weekend while speaking at the flag-off of the initiative, where 1,000 women petty traders collectively received the sum of N50 million from Nigeria’s First Lady and Chairperson of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Senator Tinubu for the recapitalisation of their businesses, emphasizing that this support could unlock new pathways for their economic aspirations.
Expressing deep appreciation to Senator Tinubu for being a beacon of hope for Nigerian women, Mrs. Otti used the opportunity to acknowledge the steadfast leadership of her husband and governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, for his progressive policies that continue to safeguard the interests of women in the state. Mrs Otti pointed out that the progressive policies of the Governor Otti-led administration will continue to safeguard the interests of women and youths in the state.
This was as Senator Tinubu reiterated that said the RHI would continue to prioritize the economic empowerment of Nigerian women and youths.
The First Lady also revealed that RHI has consistently delivered support to her target beneficiaries across the six geopolitical zones of the country, in line with the economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Recall that the recapitalization fund by Nigeria’s First Lady for women across the country was in a bid to promote economic empowerment and stimulate growth among Nigerian women. It was officially launched at the weekend in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, as a core project of the Nigerian First Lady dedicated to uplifting women and households across Nigeria, fostering economic resilience, and generating employment.
Represented at the occasion by Mrs Salamatu Gbajabiamila, Senator Tinubu emphasized the critical role women play in driving local economies, stating, “The grants provided today are intended to help our women overcome business challenges, expand their enterprises, create jobs, and contribute more robustly to our national economy. You are the heart of our local economies, the foundation of our communities, and the unsung heroes of our nation. Today, we celebrate your hard work and perseverance.”
Praising the recipients for their resilience and determination, she called for collaborative efforts to create a Nigeria where women are equipped to succeed, and where small businesses can flourish as engines of national prosperity.
The First Lady commended the wife of the governor of Abia State, Mrs Otti, who is the coordinator of the programme in the state for making it a reality, particularly for her effort in identifying the traders in the state.
She said, “The grants provided today are intended to help our women overcome business challenges, expand their enterprises, create jobs, and contribute more robustly to our national economy.
“The beneficiaries are the heart of our local economies, the foundation of our communities, and the unsung heroes of our nation. Today, we celebrate their hard work and perseverance.”
In a remark, Mrs Otti lauded Mrs Tinubu for being a beacon of hope and support to Nigerian women.
In their respective remarks at the occasion, the deputy governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, and the Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Mrs. Blessing Ngozi Felix, commended the Renewed Hope Initiative for its dedication to humanity and urged the women to make the most of this life-changing support.
The event marked the symbolic presentation of the N50 million to the beneficiaries, rekindling hope.
