Ekiti clears 3,000 hectares for mechanised farming
The Ekiti State Government has cleared 3,000 hectares of land to promote mechanised farming, advance agribusiness, and encourage youth participation in agriculture.
The state Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, disclosed this during a radio programme in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday.
He emphasised the government’s focus on agriculture as a critical sector for job creation and economic empowerment.
“The state government will continue to develop agribusiness and attract youths to farming, to create employment and empower the people in the state,” Olatunbosun stated.
He further noted that a significant portion of the state’s 2025 budget was allocated to the agricultural sector.
The commissioner also used the platform to warn residents against indiscriminate bush burning, especially during the dry season, to avert potential loss of lives and property.
“This warning is crucial to prevent unnecessary loss of lives and property to fire,” he said.
Olatunbosun reiterated the state government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property during the festive season.
He urged residents to report suspicious activities to appropriate authorities, stressing that security is a shared responsibility.
“A lackadaisical attitude to happenings in neighbourhoods can negatively impact the environment. By staying vigilant, residents can help identify and prevent crime, ultimately curbing wrongdoing in society,” he noted.
The commissioner warned that anyone caught engaging in illegal activities would face the full wrath of the law.
He also called on the public to take ownership of public infrastructure, safeguarding them against vandalism or theft.
“Untoward acts such as bush burning, particularly during the dry season, must be avoided to prevent possible loss of lives and property to fire,” Olatunbosun added.
While affirming Ekiti’s status as one of the most peaceful and crime-free states in the country, the commissioner assured residents of the government’s unwavering efforts to enhance security and ensure total safety for all.
