Eight Nigerians deported for overstaying their visas
At least eight Nigerians have been deported by the Indian authorities for overstaying their visas.
These Nigerians have living illegally in the Dwarka area of Delhi, the country’s capital.
Their deportation followed a police investigation that uncovered their expired visa status.
The Nigerians, along with two other foreign nationals from Ghana and Ivory Coast, were arrested by Delhi police in February.
They were detained while a probe was conducted to confirm their immigration status, which concluded last week.
Reports indicate that the arrests were carried out near Poswal Chowk, Mohan Garden, after law enforcement officers received a tip-off.
The police moved quickly and detained the individuals, later confirming that their visas had expired and that they had been residing unlawfully in India.
The deportees include James Chibuike, 34; Kwatpan Dalang, 25; Nnamdi Uduaka, 32; Chijioke Onumajuru, 48; Destiny Michael, 25; Chris Nwachi, 43; Precious, 35; and Ejike Obadi, 32.
The Ghanaian and Ivorian nationals, identified as Andrews Kwabena, 36, and Michel Okou, 36, were also ordered to leave the country.
Investigations revealed that the group had been staying illegally in India since 2020 and frequently changed addresses to avoid detection.
Once their illegal status was confirmed, the Foreigners Regional Registration Office issued formal deportation orders, leading to their removal from the country.
Indian authorities have been tightening immigration checks to address the issue of foreigners overstaying their visas, with law enforcement agencies taking decisive action against violators.
