Edo state gets new commissioner of Police
Monday Agbonika has been appointed as the Commissioner of Police for Edo State, Nigeria, succeeding CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin. This change follows the tragic killing of 16 Hausa-Fulani travelers in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area, on March 27, 2025. The Police Service Commission tasked CP Agbonika with preventing potential reprisal attacks in the region.
Prior to this appointment, CP Agbonika served as the Commissioner of Police (Mounted Troop) and Force Equitation Officer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. His extensive career includes roles such as Deputy Commissioner at Interpol, Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex in Lagos; Deputy Commissioner of Operations at the Ports Authority Police Command in Port Harcourt; and Deputy Commissioner in the Department of Finance and Administration at Zone 16, Yenagoa. He has also held positions as Area Commander in various locations, including Ota in Ogun State and Idimu in Lagos.
CP Agbonika’s diverse experience in various capacities within the Nigeria Police Force positions him to address the security challenges currently facing Edo State.
