Chairman of Edo State Chapter of Association, Mr Jenkins Evbareke Osunde disclosed this at a press briefing on Sunday in Benin City where it affirmed the earlier position of the State leadership party led by Mr Anselm Ojezua.
Recall that the National Working Committee (NWC) of APC fortnight ago, released the guidelines for the conduct of Edo and Ondo States Governorship primary election.
Osunde who was represented by Mr John Osi Akhigbe, Chairman of Etsako Central Local Government Area, called on the National leadership of APC to conduct indirect primary election in Edo State in order to avert what it termed as devastating consequences which the Coronavirus can inflict” on residents of the State “if the party fails to follow the guidance of health experts”.
He noted that: “We are indeed shocked that anyone or group of persons with genuine concern for the lives of Edo people will, at this point in time be proposing a massive gathering of people with all the local and global best practice prescription of ‘social distancing’ is discarded for all kinds of contorted for all kinds of excuses”
The ALGON Chairman who was flanked by other Chairmen in the State, said that they are shocked “that the National Working of our party had supposedly opted to conduct a direct primary process of nomination for Edo Governorship scheduled to hold on June 22, 2020.
“We believe that members of the National Working Committee (NWC) will not want to be chronicled as the political leaders who are willing to sacrifice the lives of their members for the ungodly advantage of securing a political advantage in an election”, he stressed.
In the light of the foregoing, “Edo State ALGON hereby make clear our resolution that Indirect primary is the safest option, the most humane and healthy alternative for APC 2020 Governorship primaries”, according to the group.
The ALGON Chairman also passed a vote of confidence on the Edo APC Chairman, Mr Aselm Ojezua and the incumbent Governor of the State for bringing sanity to the corridor of power and overall development of the State.
