Edo PDP hails tribunal progress, condemns secretariat takeover
The Edo Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over the progress made at the governorship election tribunal.
The party also applauded its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, for his hard work, dedication and leadership.
The party stated this in a communique by its secretary, Henry Tenebe, released after the Caretaker Committee meeting, convened by its chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, on Tuesday and made available to journalists on Wednesday.
The party also condemned the takeover of its party secretariat on Airport Road, Benin by the All Progressives Congress and called for restraints, noting that the party has sent several petitions to all relevant security agencies to intervene.
The statement read, “The committee reviewed the ongoing tribunal case and expressed satisfaction with the progress so far made while discussing the issues, legal strategies and potential outcomes.
“The committee also called for more restraints from its membership as it continued to condemn the occupation of its secretariat by All Progressives Congress. Several petitions have been sent to all relevant security agencies to intervene as we are a law-abiding political party.
“On the upcoming Zonal Congress, the committee enjoined members to be vigilant and await the directives of the National Headquarters.”
Tenebe said the committee expressed commitment to providing additional support and leadership when necessary while assuring that it would collaborate with the embattled chairman to find a solution to the ongoing crisis.
Also, the committee underscored the importance of unity and effective legislative processes, encouraging members to work cohesively toward the state’s development agenda in the state House of Assembly.
The committee also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the party’s structure while serving the people of Edo State.
