In a bid to ensure that all the stakeholders and sector regulators are carried along, the workaholic Director General, Imo State CPC, Hon Mrs Obioma Okafor met with the president of Imo State Almagamated Market Traders Association, ISAMATA, Hon. Emmanuel Ezeanochie, on Tuesday, 16th November,2021 to brief him about the uniform indigenous measurement cups.
In her speech, Mrs Okafor hinted that the cups have been approved by Federal Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment, Abuja under the department of Weight and Measures to be the standard measurement cups for the sale of all kinds of grains in Imo State, in order to reduce the rate of malpractices amongst the grain dealers, at the detriment of the unsuspecting Consumers. Any unbiased observer of events in Nigeria, particularly Imo State , will attest to the fact that consumers are frustrated and tired of being cheated. “You will buy two cups of Gari, when you get home, you find out it’s one and half”. The DG reiterated that, the whole essence of introducing the standard measurement cups is to ensure that consumers have value for their money.
The president of ISAMATA was also briefed about the successful launching of these cups on the 15th day of March 2021 by His Excellency, Most Distinguished, Senator Hope Uzodimma, who was represented by the duo of Chief Cosmos Iwu, Secretay to Imo State Government and Bar Nnamdi Anyaehie, the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Imo State.
According to the DG, Governor Hope Uzodimma has repositioned Imo State Consumer Protection Council for effective protection of consumer’s rights in the state. With the introduction of indigenous standard measurement cups of 5 litres and 250 cubic centimetre, the state will definitely rejoice over the “3R” vision of Gov. Hope Uzodimma, which centres on Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Recovery. With this the Governor has restored hope to Imo people.
Moving forward, Mrs Okafor said “we are pleased to inform you that we have carried out a state wide sensitization and awareness campaign in all the major markets in imo state on the need to use the indigenous measurement cups as approved by the relevant authorities.
We also wish to inform you that we have met with the executives and members of Imo state grain dealers association and they all welcomed the idea and promised to partner with CPC to ensure that the project see the light of the day.
In his response, the president of ISAMATA, Hon Emmanuel Ezeanochie, thanked the highly respected DG and members of her team for the visit, while assuring of his support to reachout to the leaders of the 335 markets in Imo State.
He further explained that with his office he will sensitize the traders and encourage them to key into the vision for the overall wellness of imolites, which is the main focus of the policies of the present administration.
The ISAMATA helmsman expressed satisfaction with the level of achievements recorded by Mrs Okafor, since she assumed office as the DG, while making it known that his mandate as the president of ISAMATA, is to uphold the 3R mantra of His Excellency Gov. Hope Uzodimma. “I have the confidence in your leadership capacity and administrative acumen to turn around CPC for good and no doubt, your appointment is a welcome development.”
